1. Mrs. Anna Warder, in her diary, under the date November 27, 1786, a week before the wedding, has this to say of the bride-to-be:
While I was down stairs a sweet looking woman called to see the girls, who in a few days is to be married out of the Society, to the great Dr. Hutchinson, many years older than herself, and a widower with one son. Evident it is here that girls feel the scarcity of men or they would not sacrifice themselves. [48]
