OBITUARY of JEAN CALLARD
Diamond Bar - Jean Jurd CALLARD, 73, of Diamond Bar died Dec 20, 2000 at home, of pancreatic cancer. She was born the Feb 20, 1927 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the third daughter of Harry Earl JURD (Springfield, IL) and Grace Adeline nee DICKINSON (Monett, MO). In March 1963, she moved to Diamond Bar with her former husband, Louis Robert WINDHAM, and her young children. In 1964 she received her Bachelors of Arts in Education at Fullerton State College, she taught 2nd and 3rd grades for 27 years at Golden Springs Elementary School, until her retirement in 1991. She had also received her Masters in Education from CAL Poly, Pomona in 1986. She married Richard Lee CALLARD, with whom she shared a love of travel, on 17 March 1978. They enjoyed exploring England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales during her free summers, and also visited France, Spain, Morocco, Italy, Australia, China and Japan. Their great enjoyment included museums, classical music, plays and quiet times together. She was a member of California Retired Teachers. After retiring she volunteered for the American Red Cross (Blood Services) and the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (Women's Center). For many years she belonged to The Friends of the Pomona Library, and held many offices over the years. This year she was elected to the office of Recording Secretary, but had to resign in July due to failing health. Jean is survived by her husband, Richard Lee CALLARD; her daughter, Christine Grace BARTLEY of San Francisco; her son, Bruce Clark WINDHAM of Branson, Missouri; grandchildren Briana Rose BARTLEY of San Francisco, and Aaron Paul WINDHAM and Jonathan Alan WINDHAM of Diamond Bar. Memorial services will be held on January 6, 2001, 12 Noon, Golden Springs Elementary School, Diamond Bar, California. It is Mrs. CALLARD's wishes that Memorial Contributions be given in her name to the "Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center" of the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and to the VNA & Hospice of Southern California.
The Cancer Care Center is where Jean received treatment and loving support from doctors and nurses and this allowed her to live longer and spend precious time with her family. The Hospice support enabled Jean to die with dignity at her home. It was Jean wishes to extend her love to them and best wishes for the excellent treatment and care that they have given and give to many others.
