“CARLINVILLE - James Jordan Denby Sr., 79, of South Palmyra Township, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009. He was born Jan. 12, 1930, at Hurricane Hill, the family home west of Carlinville, the son of Gordon and Elizabeth Jordan Denby. He married Julia Marie Sanders on Nov. 27, 1959, at Christians Church in Virden. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Phillip Lloyd and Walter William Denby II. Mr. Denby graduated from East Woodland School and Carlinville High School. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated from the University of Illinois, majoring in agriculture. He farmed in Illinois and Costa Rica. He developed Taggert Woods with others and developed Hurricane subdivision with his brother, Bill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Kappa Sigma fraternity at the University of Illinois and the Carlinville Jaycees. Surviving are his wife, Marie Denby of Carlinville; a son, James Jordan Denby Jr.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Denby, James Jordan Denby III and David Gordon Denby; a sister, Elizabeth Anne Denby Michael of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Carlinville with the Rev. John Bettmann and the Rev. Wayne Shipley officiating. Burial will be in Carlinville City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Carlinville Area Hospital Building Fund. Heinz Funeral Home in Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.”
